the weak, they fall in silence on the way they're wounded by the words that people say the strong, they keep on marching night and day and for the fallen, they don't stop to pray the Darwin theory plays in social life survival of the fittest in the strife The strong, they maim and then run off in glee A branch struck down from their familial tree Community, a fable, sweet to share but fable nonetheless, so few can care If one is, hurt the body, it must bleed* But it goes on, dismembered by the deed There is no honor in demeaning talk The walk of shame, the path they will not walk Eileen Manassian I come from a shame and honor society....a person's good name is more important to him/her than fortune or fame. So few know the meaning of true honor....The Bible comes from this region of the world... Proverbs 12: 1 & 2- A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold. New International Version (NIV) Matthew 12: 36- But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. Empty words...Jesus says that if you call your brother stupid....you are in danger of hell fire....Something to think about.... Matthew 5:22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell. *In I Corinthians 12, Paul uses the analogy of the body to depict the community spirit that believers should have: 22 On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor......that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. 26 If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.

There is a lot to mull over in these lines, Eileen. Words are a gift, and they must be used with care; just one word out of place is enough to ruin a person's life for ever. I have read of many examples where children have taken their lives because of being ridiculed by their mates; same applies to adults. Not all have the strength to stand up for themselves. ~ hugs // paul

Paul....it is incredible how people can't SEE that. They find where it hurts...and instead of binding...they slash open more to pour sat in the wound. It is heinous and unforgivable. Yes...not all are strong enough to bear it. Thanks for the visit, dear. Hugs

this is an excellent poem, Eileen, with a lot of thought put into it. Also I love the scripture references that back it up!

I don't believe how many haters are out there, Sunshine. It's sad. I have a Model by the name of Tess Holliday that I follow on instagram...she gets such hate messages because she is a plus size model. Why can't people just live and let live...I'll never know. Hugs, dear. Thanks for the visit.

- Dear Eileen, you say really much here (more than words written) - When I think of the whole "picture of the world today", I must say it is hard to believe in the "goodness" .... it is so enormously bloody and hateful world we live in - a great poem - I wish you a lovely weekend in peace and harmony :) - hugs // Anne-Lise :)

There is deep reflection here, a child of careful teaching or intensity of human experience. Probably a bit of each. Some turn without and others within. Nicely constructed—then flowing deftly from your pen.

Thanks, Mark... :) What a lovely comment. I will be by to visit you. I have a new poem up about stargazers and starshooters, but it is an analogy. :) Thanks for the visit.

More than just a poem, but an outlet for discussion, as well as soul-searching. I can see what you mean by the difference of culture in regards to names ... almost every name in the Bible has a specific meaning, while today names are just given for aesthetic purposes: it sounds pretty. If you're gonna carry around a name for the rest of your life, it would sense that it would have some special significance.

My daughter's name means sweet. :) That is in Farsi. Biblical names had meanings....Tim, when someone shames you...brings dishonor to your name in my part of the world...it's a big thing. You need to restore honor....Of course, people take it to the extremes and that's where we have honor killings. :( Thanks for your visit. If we really care about each other...jesting and bantering that will hurt will be avoided. Hugs

Continued ... even light-joking words can have an impact (even if you didn't intend for it) ... always be careful of what you say, and how the other person will take it. Deeply etched, with words of wisdom, my dear friend.

Thanks, Tim...Group dynamics is always a challenge, but....if there is too much strife in a community...it will not flourish. Thanks for your visit, dear.
