Shallow Grave

How is it that you see me, when I stand in front of you? Do you see my tenacity and what I’d do to see you through? Do you view me as a cancer? rotten to the core. Or maybe just a nuisance, for you, another chore? Do I take up too much space, that you wish I’d just vacate? I’m sorry, it’s just not in me, to say things to placate. I chased you like a dream, one I thought had come true. Now you’re just a nightmare, one I can’t sleep through. You lit torches once right under me, I took it all in stride. You burned me for a second time and still I didn’t hide. Like the phoenix rose from ash, my passion twice renewed. Thinking that you’d let me be, instead, a third time screwed. What is it about me, that leaves such bitter taste? That you would have me thrown away, no purpose, just to waste. I sit now at this crossroad, unsure which way to go. What I once believed my calling, now really, I don’t know. Some say don’t bite the hand that feeds but feed me you have not. you didn’t think I’d come for you? You should have paused in thought. Three shots now you’ve taken, while you had me chained and bound. You should have aimed more carefully; I know you’re out of rounds. I’ve slipped through your weak shackles; I’ve seen through all your lies. The memories of your treatment, ingrained, until my body dies. No weapon you wield against me, will ever rule the day. If this truly is my calling, you had better clear the way. Like David beat Goliath and then displayed his head. I’ll carve away all the means, you have for spreading dread. So, while you hide in shadows, your true colors bleed and show. I’ll hoist you from the gallows, so the whole world will finally know. For years you’ve trampled warriors, you beat them worse than slaves. It’s a shame that all your skeletons, are in such shallow graves.
