Servant Heart

Servant Heart In a world of gloomy places When my foolish heart would take an axe To the Tree of Life, Dig up its roots, drain the River, Make a bonfire of the leaves With healing for the nations, Joy on springs Offers me a servant heart, Living in the presence of eternal bounty, That in its deepest olive garden hour Knows its need for God Offers not submission but transcendent ambassador Sent on God’s mission When hope breeds joy Bursting from primitive silence - Eloping into divine verse - Like a tap root sent deep into blind depths, Deaf to the reveries of benediction Taking credit for Heaven’s grace, My simpleminded heart feeds on manna To tend the Tree of Life Born again, To feed its roots in the mortal wilderness Wash soiled and weary feet in the River Make a balm with leaves for healing of the nations From a servant heart planted in the jewel of ecstasy. 5-5-22 Contest: Brian Strand Premiere Sponsor: Brian Strand

Greetings Vickey! What a blessing to know that this poem had a restorative effect. I am so glad you saw the nod to the beautiful references of a "balm in Gilead." It is also based on one of the last chapters of Revelation that speaks of the River, The Tree of Life and leaves with healing for the nations. Those beautiful images always touch my heart, fill me with hope and raise my spirits. Sending you blessings like a balm from Gilead.

I am so happy that you liked this poem Joseph. Thank you so much for your lovely words of compliment - they encourage me. It took awhile for this poem to come together but was really inspired by the foundational focus of my ministry - to have a servant heart. So appreciate your visit! Sending you blessings.
