Sell Your Soul

‘Sell your soul’ Was just a joke To get him out of Things he wouldn’t do. ‘Sell your soul’ Is what he’d say, ‘What if I want to?’ Is what I’d ask. It’s just a thought He says aloud, That he’d kiss me, if I wanted As any friend would. ‘Full disclosure,’ He tells me in text, I want to kiss you… ‘Really’ in emphasis. ‘Time and place,’ Because I’ve thought about it too. And it creates this air Of change around us. ‘Time and place?’ He asks in the room Where we’re alone, And I decide yes. He kisses me then, Heavy and full, Nothing slow, And I feel it. We speak about it once, And the air between us grows. We talk about more, And I find myself curious. There’s a deal to be done, But my body won’t allow, So I tell him to postpone, And he seems ready to go. But then he leans in, Pulls me close, And we’re kissing, Slow and steady. His hand wanders, And he tells me it’s nice, Before kissing me again, Like it’s only right. Outside these four walls, I find ways to touch him, And I think he does too, More subtly than I. ‘A kiss for every one you do’ He says, Which hardly seems fair, But I laugh as I struggle. In passing comments, He says I should be single, But he’s attracted to me, And I, a crush on him. But it’s clear that there’s nothing more Even if I want there to be. We’re silly, and fun, And he’s always there. When he says he’s got me, I trust it more Than I did with him. And I come to realize, We’re not together, But I am more myself around him, Than I ever was around him. It is time between morning and noon, Where I look at him And wish he for his touch, And to kiss him again. It is after noon, When the bell signals the end, And we find ourselves in the space Of those four walls, With the door closed, That he leans in, And reminds me It was not just a dream. Out of everyone I will have to part, He will be the hardest of all, Not only because we kissed, But he was a wonderful friend, And the only that never upset me.
