Self Portrait In a Different Voice
Too soon the darkly night shone down
And cast like diamonds on the sea.
When all around the world stretched out
As far from you to me.
Do not suppose in dandy clothes
And drapes of silken tin,
That bloon the fairest wind in all
Can save you from within.
And when the willows bough turns cold
All laden firm and fat,
The chorus in full flight sings out
Renouncing where it’s at.
And the wrestle with the egg
Falls foul from womb to room,
Lies rested on some other head
Whilst cursing at the moon.
…Once more the darkly night shone down
And cast like diamonds on the sea,
When all at once the world turned flat
And sent you back to me.
