Seeing Through the Crack
SEEING THROUGH THE CRACK
Maybe this crack will teach us tolerance and kindness,
Maybe we will have vision after our blindness,
Maybe we will see more than sex, religion, or color,
Maybe each one of us will be humanity's scholar.
Maybe as always we'll hold tight and go forward,
Maybe we'll stand tall, together, and lean nor-ward,
Maybe our heritage is to fight for the cause,
Maybe it's oppression we need swept from our jaws.
The rest of the world stands in terror and aghast,
It's part of our legacy as in experiments past.
We can't promise it won't be a rough ride,
We just know we'll each try to be America's pride.
Yet we'll differ a smidgen or in giant, great ways,
Ours is the hope to mend all broken frays.
So fear for us not, in our upheaval and division,
It's part of America, it's part of our vision.
