Seeds
Once upon a time and long ago
The old man said, I planted flowers here
The memories begin to disappear
Now all I see here now is ash and snow
And nothing after all that work to show
My children's children that I hold so dear
He sat down on the ground and shed a tear
Lord take me now, he said, I want to go
You'll have to wait, I've other things to do
Said God (or was it, who can truly say)
Get up and go and fight another day
Or find someone to help that isn't you
Here, have a seed. He opened up his hand
And there it was. Not ours to understand
