Secret Formula
SECRET FORMULA
She does not even know I am squinting at her
From behind my newspaper
As the train lurches across the points going home
She has caught my eye and fulfils the secret
Formula of ideal womanhood
Which I carry in my head, like all men,
But she does not know it
And I am too shy to speak up as a stranger on a train
So when she alights at the next station
She will never know I existed
But I shall always carry her memory in my head
I may never find her again
But I will always see her in my mind’s eye
And she does not even know I am squinting at her.
