Screaming Grass

It is nature we soundly harass we set the order on human whims. Just ask the thick, fresh, green, screaming grass lawns send scented signals after trims. Grass gets chopped, cut and then they cry their only voice is the perfumed air. So foolish us, yet we wonder why it's so little that we even care. As we all slash 'n trounse these plants down how lost we are to practice hubris. Never noticing nature's sad frown not like there's nothing that we would miss. Insights we see in such simple things many hidden truths that nature brings.

This poem is magnificent Greg! When one considers that all sentient things have feelings, all matter for that matter. There are bugs that hold a dearness in my memory, like when I see someone deliberately step on one out side in their environment. What right have we? I will admit to appreciating the petrichor scent from the grass after it has been cut and it rains. It gives a slight feeling of euphoria. Your poem left me with that feeling. Congratulations on your win. I loved this poem. Cheers

Since sentient beings can be plants and trees beyond the animals, we need to not objectify anything alive (not to mention inorganic). This is very Buddhist and scientific all at once. It's a bitter pill for the individualistic Westerner to stomach. You, Connie, have gotten past this but others have not. Thank you ever so for your validating comment.

Kim, the sentient nature of beings like plants is an emerging issue of interest. Objectification is a new world, new order issue that this generation needs to understand and decide. Thanks for your interest and thought.

I've read three of your poems tonight Greg, this, 'Falling All Apart' and 'Why Cut Flowers' and each one of them has made me think. Not just think for thinking sake but actually made me go away and think and read again. Your love of nature and concern for its future shine through. This and the Flowers both compliment a particular quote of yours on your bio page about the six trillion trees. Your work is fascinating. Cheers - Gary

Thanks Gary. I believe part of the poet's role is to make the reader think. Your validating comments are most supportive. Lots of poets think otherwise, this produces sameness in verse. Your insights are for both of us, to write something that makes a difference. Your fine skills should get you there. I'll run hard to catch up. Best of luck dear bard.
