Sailor's Poem
The remote and prolonged days,
The tedious, everlasting week.
Is it really worth what it pays,
When everything around is so bleak.
Grey and blue engulf me,
While I man endless of the watch.
Fighting for the home of the free,
Making the satisfactory beyond top-notch.
Pay now means absolutely nothing,
And I may still be months away,
But, I'm living life like a king,
So I'll take it day by day.
And even when the days drag on,
When the watch never seems to end,
Working 24 hours from dawn to dawn,
I know home is right around the bend.
The saying is where the heart is,
And I couldn't agree with that any more.
I think my deployment flew by in a whiz,
A single tear as I walk to my front door.
I couldn't be more proud of what I do,
And although it's not always gravy,
I'm serving the red, white, and blue,
In the world's greatest Navy.
