Sadly Musing Life and Love

I sit alone as evening claims the day, with common crow my only confidant. I watch the sun sink slowly in the bay while musing life and love so nonchalant. As night descends upon my humble soul, my furtive feelings ponder kinship lost. I’m missing precious love that makes me whole; my dearest darling gone at such a cost. And woe I say, why did she go away, and leave my heavy heart in agony; behind, my shallow spirit here to stay; she cast our love away so damnably. Alas, I rue thee, my ascetic life, and long to lance my heart with wretched knife. January 17, 2018 Poem of the Day - January 18, 2018

Whilst my love lost poem pales in comparasion to yours, reading yours inspired me or made me dare to attempt. So thank you

I've been making my way through all your poetry. Love lost is hard to pull off as it's been done so much, but the last couplet... How I wish I could claim to have written that. Fantastic poem and you've inspired me to have a shot at writing a love lost poem too.

Thank you so much for this wonderful comment, Tansy, it always warms my heart to see people reading some of my earlier works. I have written many "love lost" poems but this is probably one of my better ones. Another one is "Lying in the Shadows" which I wrote last summer. Thanks for taking the time to read my poetry; I look forward to reading a "love lost" poem of yours. John

Thank you so much, Susan. I have grown much as a writer and learned much since joining Poetry Soup and a lot of that was just from reading other peoples poems; there are so many incredible writers on PS. And I consider you one of those writers; you have written some amazing sonnets which I love to go back and re-read. So I thank you my friend for the encouragement and the inspiration you have given me.

You used iambic pentameter to deliver a very moving, even Shakespearean-sounding in some lines, sonnet. I actually feel I should come hide all knives around and near you, so convincing was your emotion. This is an accomplishment you should feel very good about, John. I enjoyed - always do! All the best ... CayCay

Thank you, CayCay. I'm pleased to hear that I was able to convey those emotions to you. I normally write from the heart so for me to write a piece like this and convey something that I'm not really feeling is difficult. I appreciate your support and friendship. John
