"Typically a pantoum is made up of two rhyming couplets, however, Western writers altered and adapted the form, the importance of rhyming and brevity diminished. So, pantoums do not need to rhyme." --from Poetry Soup's Types of Poems.
Sad songs conjure up images of unrequited love
Way back when we were young and foolish,
When our immature emotions ruled our hearts
We were highly impressionable and easily swayed.
Way back when we were young and foolish
Our vulnerability was our worst internal enemy
We were highly impressionable and easily swayed
Remembering the aching heartbreak and bitterness.
Our vulnerability was our worst internal enemy
Settling in to expose our youth and eagerness
Remembering the aching heartbreak and bitterness
Making us reluctant to share our broken heart.
Settling in to expose our youth and eagerness
We sought the new love, all the while, still
Making us reluctant to share our broken heart
Careful not too quickly to expose the hurt.
We sought the new love, all the while, still
When our immature emotions ruled our hearts
Careful not too quickly to expose the hurt,
Sad songs conjure up images of unrequited love.
