Sad Solstice - For Contest
Sad Solstice
Brittle fields succumb to darkness
Shadows creeping among learned stones
Children cloaked in life’s mystery
Await the return of the sun
Shadows creeping among learned stones
followed by the eyes of elders
knowledge sifted through the ages
gods and demons amid the clouds
Children cloaked in life’s mystery
humming wordless chants of promise
dance on the frozen ground of hope
embrace the lengthening shadows
await the return of the sun
feast on bleak future of darkness
gnaw on the bones of such torment
and worship these punishing gods
