Sad News About Winged Warrior

Sad news about Winged Warrior I just received word from the family of John Torchia, better known as Winged Warrior here on the soup, has passed away at the age of 61. He was fighting cancer and no one knew about it except for his family, and me. My last communication with John was about two months ago, he wanted to work on a Christian song together but he wasn't feeling well. He wanted me to let everyone on Poetry Soup know that he apologizes for not posting recently and not commenting as he normally does. I know he was beloved here for his deeply spiritual poetry, and his remarkable vocabulary, he truly loved writing and we all no doubt will miss him very much. I suspected something was wrong lately as he never responded to my phone messages or emails, it is with a heavy heart that I bear this sad news. RIP my friend.... John Derek Hamilton 11/ 9/2020

Yes it is sad indeed. His family received a big hug from the PS community, I'm so proud of how supportive everyone has been!

Thanks for letting us know as you did over at the blog too . I was curious how he died, and this has answered my question. The poor guy. I hope cancer won't return and be the death of me too. So many are getting it in the world these days, It's great to know you were such a good friend here for him!

When a poet or poetess is no longer here, because death has taken them from us. We feel lost and our heart is broken. Sadness lingers within and I feel like a part of me is missing. This is such a heartbreaking news ;( I can’t believe it. He was such great poet and a good hearted person, always making everyone smile. Oh, how truly sad I am now. I pray he’s with the Angels smiling down on us... Thank you John for letting us know. I’ll say a prayer for him and his family...hugs

Thank you John for letting us know about WW! Just today I was wondering about him - hadn't seen any posts or received one of his wonderful messages lately. Now he truly is a "winged" "warrior," one of God's warriors gone home. He will be more than missed. His faith shone brightly here. Know I keep him and his family close in prayer. John, thank you for sharing this tragic news. I tried several times to reach out to John in recent months but to no avail. I knew he had a health issue and I was hoping for the best. This is truly heartbreaking and I will surely miss my dear friend, my bro bro, and all the silliness of our banter. He used to say that me and Brenda were his missing sisters found.. I was embraced by his beautiful friendship and his memory will be forever embraced in my heart.. May he Rest In Peace..

I messaged him recently and ask his friends if they had heard from him. This is heartbreaking news, he was such a wonderful and supportive friend and poet. I'm heartbroken. A big loss not only here but also to this world... I hope he is sitting with the Angels and is at peace with God Thought and prayers with his family in these sad times. Thank you John.
