Sacrificial Lambs
They cried for their mothers as they were
Torn from their udders and swept away
To be fed and fattened for someone's feast
The life of a sacrificial lamb today
Once a gift to ease the Gods anger
Blood spread from their veins
During times of poor crops and drought
Sacrificicing all to call the rains
And of the sadness in their eyes
No one seemed to care
Fearing the anger of the Gods
Was more than they could bare
And of the mother left in the fold
Whose cries faded on deaf ears
Would this loss erase in time
Or remain a scar for years?
So sad and cruel to take a life
That has not yet begun
A decision made so long ago
A battle not yet won.
