Young Lena wandering under a covered sky~ Alone I'm walking not far from my destroyed home. It's nearly Christmas where I live, but Santa Claus won't be here this year. It doesn' t matter too much, because I don't have a chimney or a holly tree to leave the presents. I'm strolling with my friend, a bullfinch that joined me scared and injured. I named him "Rocky" because he is strong. Now he can fly and go, I wish I was him and I could fly too. But Rocky doesn't want to leave me, he stays on my arm. On one hand, I'm sad for him, but on the other hand I'm happy to have him with me. Am I selfish?, maybe yes. Tonight we found a refuge to stay in. We both have mixed feelings, we both are scratching, we both wonder if God forgot about us. We only have a pretzel to share for eating and making it last as much as we can. We try to sleep with the noise, I did it for a while, my dear friend is huddle to me. When I opened my eyes, a soldier was in front of us, he smiled to me, I didn't know what was happening, he just hug me and took us from the refuge. He talked to me quietly and explained where I was going to go. Really?- I was jumping allover with my "Rocky". My dear Rocky, we both go to another country. I have feelings encountered, but It's the hopeful door to take. That soldier is taking us to the airport, he brought lots of pretzles for us to eat and many other gifts we didn't expected. My dear "Rocky" will we have wings enough to be happy? You say yes and so do I, We have an open door to go out from the worst, we will fly for freedom.

heartbreaking personification, Maria. The homeless suffering in the cold. The imagery of Lena and Rocky, his broken wing, refugees. Lovely Christmas story, thank you for sharing. Healthy New Year's to you and yours! ~Anaya

A beautiful and heartfelt Personification poem, Maria. My heart is breaking for all the people involved in war torn countries. Like Lena and Rocky, they have nowhere to go. They cling to whomever or whatever will comfort them. God bless that soldier, that even in war felt for the lost and helped as he could. Thank you for reminding us that they're those with nothing but hope left. We should pray for them and help in any way we can. I'm adding this poem to my FAVs list.

Your poem poignantly captures Lena's narrative, woven with tender emotions and stark reality, illuminates the innocence and strength found in unexpected companionship. The bond between Lena and Rocky, a symbol of strength and hope, echoing the desire for freedom and the unspoken courage to embrace change. It beautifully encapsulates the transformative power of compassion, depicting the arrival of a guiding light in the form of a soldier, offering both sustenance and a path to a new beginning.
