Road Trip

Miles stretch before me, and many behind - as many are the thoughts tonight on my mind. I began this trip giving my body more ink, more art to describe one more family link. I will end it the same way, on the same arm - in trade for meaning, a tiny measure of harm. I visit friends and kin close to home and those far, eminently worth all those hours in the car. They renew my spirit with words and shared smiles - if only with them I had more than these small whiles. I look back already on the weeks just spent, and feel that far too quickly that time went. Yet I feel no regret for leaving so soon - only joy from their company, such a boon. I also visited friends and family who have passed, for each of them, a poem I wrote long past. I spoke and I wept, and although I don't believe - I hope they heard what words I managed to weave. Through all this, a voice in text and on the phone, supporting despite how far from home I've flown. Such a rare soul I've been so dearly lucky to meet - she floors me yet somehow already keeps me on my feet. Like the rain we both enjoy, o'er her shoulders pours hair the color of the sunflowers she so adores. Her freckled eyes I miss, that gaze that locks me in - the gorgeous green and the long looks making me grin. Miles stretch before me, and many behind - as many are the thoughts tonight on my mind.
