Right There

I wake up to a dark room I look over at an empty pillow you were just here silently sleeping angelic right there sharing a dream with me but now emptiness is all that remains I sit up bed springs groan I glance around the dark room is lit by lightening from an approaching storm rain begins to patter the roof and there's no sign of you but I can still smell your perfume it lingers in the air right there right where you were assuring me you're here somewhere I get up cross to the bedroom door I open it and step into the living room still searching for you my eyes scan the room and finally light upon you you're right there where you always are sitting on the window sill watching the rain you always loved the rain I move next to you the scent from your perfume grows stronger I pick you up and my arms fold perfectly around your slender body but you're cold so cold lightening flashes and metal catches my eye I read the engraving for the millionth time Becky Gise 1991-2009 cremated by her own wishes she was right there and then she was gone I cradle you in my arms and walk back to the bedroom I lay you down on your pillow next to me where you should always be my eyes close and I begin to drift back to sleep finally safe finally content because you're always right here
