Retired Remnants

When truly embracing life, one must also embrace the mortal chain of death as friends and family continue passing in harmony with the earthly seasons, in quiet tune with celestial movement. What being in profound contemplation when dealing with melancholia, ever lived their life without flirting briefly with the thought of suicide; the persuasion of drink compounded? The joys of life intermingle with sorrow in a stage of life when Time ironically becomes an enemy as well as a friend, when one endeavors to share wisdom that may be unappreciated and rejected. The sudden glint off the wing of a passing silver bird with many souls, recalls to mind the madness that still dwells in corners of dark and light, of years gained, yet lost in flight. © 2012 Connie Marcum Wong

We can only live our life to the fullest & not put off for tomorrow ... I believe I will be quite content to go when it's my time - only only fear the pain. I am thankful for every minute of life and ask for nothing more if there's more - well that will be interesting as well! Light & Love

Thank you Debbie. If you are able to make your life have more joy than sorrow then you have added joy to someone elses life. I can die happy knowing I will be missed and not forgotten by those that I love, who love me too.

How quickly time passes - it definitely becomes the enemy the older we get! It's truly hard to embrace death, not only of others, but also the knowledge of our own passing, coming...loved the melancholy, reflective tone. very deep piece :)

Just looking at your remark after mine. I have a friend who was a stewardess as her career and the stories she tells! The travel must have been wonderful; I think it's dangerous today with all that's going on. Knowing this gives the poem so much more meaning "wing of a silver bird" Lovely!

How true that we have to learn to accept death of friends and family members throughout our lives. I have found that "The joys of life (DO) intermingle with the sorrow. The last verse blew me away. Awesome! Love, Carolyn

Love that line about time becomes an enemy as well as a friend; how true Connie, so many years are lost in flight. Makes me think of my own life. Beautiful poem. LOve, Elizabeth

Thank you Elizabeth. This poem is mostly about reflections of life, but my meaning in the last stanza about 'lost in flight' is about the 34 years I spent as a stewardess as I recall the good and bad times.

There is a certain amount of sadness which comes with getting older unless you happen to embrace it as a sort of goal. I figure it took me a long time to get this way and I want credit for it. Great write here. filled with understanding and beauty. God Bless, JB

I lost my dear aunt, the last sibling alive on my maternal side in July, but the poem is mostly about reflections and my meaning in the last stanza is about the 34 years I spent as a stewardess as I recall the good and bad times.

Deep write. As we get older many things start falling into perspective. Sometimes it's scary.
