Resurrection
Coffee's aroma rubs my shoulders and
Caresses my neck
Grumpy gents order it black
And are quite thankful
Cream or sugar
Or both sorts
Let out a smile
And leave a mess on the table
All other hot frilly caffeinated concoctions
Are already cheerful to begin
Spouting a proud recital
But not stopping there
"You should really have
What I'm having"
So, I decided this week I would smile.....
No matter what
I laughed off insult
Delighted in rumor
Skirted betrayal with naivete
And plucked daggers
From the depth of my back
Only to plunge them in
The office wall
So to hang my hat and coat
We sat there speechless for awhile
She sat down next to me
We were having separate
Phone conversations
We hung up together
We both looked into our cups
I turned to her and she to me
She's a med student from New Delhi
The cafe was very busy
Buzzing w/ noises
I speak more confidently when there's a lot of noise
She smiled confidently
Her eyes dancing little brown flames
While she spoke
She was 5 minutes late for an appointment
"I'm getting my eyebrows waxed"
She wouldn't let me pay for her breakfast
But told me her name....
