Residue From A Cocaine Addiction

The innocuous white powder;
those dusty crumbs,
sniffed off distorted, glass mirrors
reflect images not his own.

Straight up or cut down,
it shames the weak
and weakens the poor.

Cracked up or cranked out,
oozing from a crusty nose,
dripping from his blank stare,
in eyes too blind to see that this
is the residue of his LIFE;
leftovers from the best parts of him;
refuse, ruins, pieces and particles that
be blown away!

    Powerful write here, Celeste. I buried a man I loved who died from heroin 40 years ago and I know the pain of watching loved ones make the choice to die. Thank Goodness I have his beautiful clean and sober son to grow old with ... smile ... awesome write here and I hope lots and lots of folks read it !!

    Very powerful and moving poem, Celeste. If you know someone who is addicted to "The innocuous white powder," I hope you can help that person pick up the pieces of their life before it is all "blown away!" Awesome! Love, carolyn
