Refolding the Paper Crane

I tried folding a paper crane again the other day
and it didn't turn out right

tracing back my folds,
I knew I missed somewhere

unfolding, re-creasing, refolding
just tracing my fingers back

fingers
    feeling the paper
and beyond

A three-minute fold
times 10 now

Even if I needed to do other things,
I paid no mind, determined to fold that crane

I had to get this right.
I had to.

Almost there...

As it turns out,
I only missed one step,
--something to do with its wings, I believe...

Amazing how a single step
could be so important.

Stretching its wings now,
the paper crane
soars proudly on my palm...
So beautiful.

In refolding this paper crane,
I hope I never forget...

Amazing how easily things slip from our minds,
but more amazing
is when our hearts Do remember.

We remember,
   and then we Do something...

...I have hundreds of paper cranes yet to fold,
it may be taking me far longer
than what I had initially planned...

but yes, you are in my thoughts,
   you are in my prayers...

and I shall continue folding these cranes.

...I revel in the thought, for that moment,
when I can send them flying towards the Sun...

Enigmatic paper cranes Nikko. I agree with you when we do remember and we do something...like today I cancel my planned vacation and donated those hours to my friend who is undergoing chemo. I really don't know what to say to her, I am really at a loss to say something when one is suffering...maybe do origami like you but I don't know how to fold papers... I hope you are doing just fine sending those paper cranes full of enigmatic thoughts to the sun beyond infinity! Love Dalila

nikko, I see you folding paper cranes very diligently. You've put your beautiful emotions in these lines and they do reach across, tenderly tugging at my heart.. can you post a picture of one paper crane,, (I went to see if there was one) and can we do some for you? Love and blessings...

I love the message you transmitted in this sweet post.. Yes even folding a paper crane is important..cos everything in life happens for a reason..and sometimes we find reasons in the simple things we do... i love the ending too sweet Nikko... Charma

Andrea's comment below is pretty funny to me. The utter disbelief of you possibly not writing for a contest. But hey, this poem could be for a contest. I almost hope that it isn't though....I am just weird that way. Strong theme and concept to this one, nikko. A lot of brooding going on? I can obsessively rework something so much until it falls apart. That is sort of wot this poem made me think of while reading it. And about the purity of actions over words. Cool stuff.

by the way, what made you do this one? A contest? Or just something else?

Very expressive and creative work..Sad to say life can't be unfolded and made right but will have those wrong creases permanently in its memory banks and emotional banks..I am glad that I chose this one to read today..Thanks for the kind review of my work...Sara
