Reflections In the Sunrise

Early morning and I am awake again, Or still rather. The cold blue-slate light filters through the shutters And I think of you. The world is blurry around me And I shrug the covers up over my shoulders Imagining you in their warmth. But you’re not here. I can feel you, Asleep in your bed, at a meaningless distance. Hear your breathing, Slow and even. Oh, but alas I’m not a dog To chase speeding cars. Think nor me the bird afraid to sing I beg also. Rather I am the rabbit; Keen on remaining still And knowing no song from these lips Can bring the prize to me. Still and silent I’ll wait, pretending The sunrise sweet pea warmth is you As it alights on these closed and dreaming eyelids
