Red Snow
Black trails in moonlight
red in the day,
wounded in winter
and wasting away.
dragging your weight
against all odds in squalls
of violent snow storms
you challenge it all.
red snow betrays you
to predators' eyes
in secret they plan for
your early demise.
The hawk and the eagle,
the wolf and the man,
all seek your death
but you must take a stand.
Life is a force and
it will be preserved
this surely isn't the end
you deserved.
Ask the Great Spirit
to take you in hand
to bless you and keep you
from creature and man.
May He lift you up
in an aura of light,
to look down in wonder
at red snow tonight.
