Out for a clandestine walk in the dark wood,
I kept my curls covered with a bright red hood.
I sensed a baleful presence, creeping very near
so I stopped a moment to listen with keen ear.
A rustling of fallen leaves grabbed my attention
but it was only Canis, so I felt no apprehension.
Canis, my love, has taken the wrap for the death
of Granny, by eating her til she took her last breath.
The naughty wolf of fearful legend is not a wolf at all!
He comes to me each time he hears my wanton call.
And Granny? That evil witch was not related to me.
She cast a spell on Canis, killing her would set him free.
I tricked her to call me for herbs needed for a spell.
When I knew she'd be home, it was Canis I did tell.
He is not a carnivore. He'd never eat that old thing,
but he did take her life, and he took her diamond ring.
We're meeting in this dark forest to share our victory
over the real villain of the tale. That witch is history!
And it was her old bloodshot eyes that grew so big,
when she saw the shovel Canis would use to grave dig.
Beneath barren trees, we wait the stroke of midnight
for the spell to be broken and the end of Canis' plight.
We'll share bread, gruyere, and a fine Bordeaux wine.
I am Red, and this is the truth, because the tale is mine.
