Reaching For Heaven
A fledgling, you embraced the wind,
eclipsing the rays of the sun.
And let magic into your heart,
conjuring hope where there was none.
Still tethered to your innocence,
fantasies overrode the truth.
And swept aside reality
with the sheer impetus of youth.
Smitten by unrequited love,
you can feel rejection's pain.
For like smoke reaching for heaven,
your highest hopes were launched in vain.
Disappointment feels surreal,
assigning blame for love's demise.
And whelming up within your heart,
teardrops trickle from weeping eyes.
You are emotionally drained;
devastated by this defeat.
And yet, it's hard to imagine,
but one day, you will feel complete.
