Rate the Battle

*** RATE THE BATTLE *** Rate your pain, they always want to know, On a scale of one (least) to ten (worst — “like hell,” they say), Although, I think, that should be reversed, because at One, first, this pain is anguishing; wanting to be foremost; Rooted under everything. I see a numbered One level pain as insipid, blocking out life — Like an iceberg Able to sink a ship; with there being One, only one way eyes feel when popping out from such pain; One level of invasive emotional or physical pain that Makes the soul groan and The lips try to repeatedly keep their shortened breaths Whispering, “Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord…” At One, or Ten (by their scale again now), I refuse To imagine even a peek into hell. I refuse to walk on a bed of flaming embers. Blut, at Nine, I might lay bare on a bed of unpolished, sharply-cut lapis, Trying to picture some promise of miraculous beauty Underlying the monstrous pain. A Nine would keep me in a self-induced trance of complete Stillness, Holding my breath, before I’d let it consume all my humor; and I’d try, yet again, to find praises in the suffering; Wherein, too, Faith in God can bring the strength and hope To survive the scales of pain In favor of the whole spirit’s long on-going, Felt rise in gratitude. Sister Mystic, I am thankful you came byy to read this one. In my 20’s in the 1970s, I made great concentration on James Joyce & Samuel Beckett. (I’ve a hand-written letter from Beckett). They had a goal, among others, of taking language beyond words, dissolving itself in its progress. Wow, eh? Hugs

Wow back at you, Joe, as one who clearly knows …They ask at the G. P., they ask at the E.R, by the time I’m at the pain clinic, my groans and screams carry loud and far! Hahaha THERE YOU GO! I went to the doc today. I was a 3/ going in. He wanted to know where I’ve hurt worst lately, so he had me twist & stretch. Now home again I’m a 7 — and that’s true, Joe, boo hoo! Thanks for you comment & Fav! Hugs!

Harry, They - the medstaffs - also ask the? To measure pain TO LEARN IF THE PAIN MEDS ARE WORKING. Thus, it needs to be answered about the times when pain does go to 2 or 3. Like using a deep prayer or trance helps too. Harry, dear thanks for reading & commenting! My best wishes! sally

Hi Victor! My greetings to Malta! I’m thankful you’ve not had to endure med. professionals asking always for phys pain to bee rated. Jim has a condition that causes that too. But by your poetry, it seems you’ve had lots of emot pain the a psychologist might ask you to rate. That no doubt added to your learning that God helps. Thanks 4 your words. Love, sally

You did an amazing job with this poetry, Saly; it was quite relaxing to me. Life is never simple; each day brings a new level of invasive mental or bodily agony that leads the spirit to whimper. On the inside, we will experience a slew of numbing sensations. However, we may try again to find blessings in the middle of our suffering by turning to God's power.

In my journey with God — with diagnosed at 8 with type 1 diabetes, it’s emot & phys battles —& w/parents who while always thinking of the Good, but not Christian looking for blessings — I grew learning to look for Lessonss. Looking 4 blessings & praising God in suffering has been a struggle I’ve been on only in past 3 yrs since my pain went from OK to Suffering. I am very much still learning these lessons. Thank you for your commenting. Good input. Blessings 2 U !
