Rainbow

High in the sky when the weather is right you'll often see a wonderful sight When sunlight from space hits the raindrops just so you'll see in the sky that colourful glow The scientist in me says it's caused by refraction as each seperate wavelength has a different reaction The red and the blue are split from the green and a spectrum of light in a curve is then seen The scientist in me will bet you a pound that no-one can be where it touches the ground It's just an illusion, a trick of the light You'll never get there, try as you might The scientist in me says it's optical law Just the way nature works and not a thing more The scientist in me knows all of this stuff but the human in me says that's just not enough The human in me looks up in delight to see all the colours you get from white light The human in me thinks of stories of old and that at the bow's end there's a big crock of gold The human in me just lets his eyes feast For the physics and optics, he cares not the least He cares not for reasons nor logical thought and gives not a damn for all he's been taught He thinks with his heart and not with his mind and leaves all the science and learning behind The human in me can just stand there in awe A rainbow at sea ... who could ask for much more
