Rain Across the Valley
Thunder on the horizon
Rumbling through the barren valley
The sound echoes off of moss covered walls
Moss that long ago wilted and died
The sky darkens
The smell of rain fills the senses
It has been a long time
An eternity in the eyes of nature
The plants turn in hope
Animals sniff the air in anticipation
One drop or a deluge
Any rain would help the parched land
For five minutes the black sky opens
The rain falls in thick grey sheets
Filling crevasses and a dead river valley
Flowers bloom
The animals drink their fill
The five minutes end
The rain moves over the mountains
And the drought returns
But for the moment
One brief moment
Live is good for that little valley
