Rage
Where does rage reside
when not in use
does it have its own little hidey-hole
like a fish in a coral-reef
tucked away somewhere deep inside us
or is it evoked
by word or action
by either ourselves or someone else
from a communal reservoir of rage
that resides somewhere outside of us
needing us to experience a certain level
of action, word, intrusion, audacity, stupidity or insult
for it to heed our call
and it is the recipients perceived level
of action, word, intrusion, audacity, stupidity or insult
that arouses and draws rage’s attention
which sends out ripples
that lap onto the recipient’s shores
and only the recipients shores
each of us makes our very own ripples
on arrival
like a movie director
those ripples call for “Action!!”
aaand.. “We’re off!!”
would that not be something
knowing that rage is not part of us
but a commodity
that we all have access to
and it is our perceived level of being affronted
disappointed, riled up or hurt
that decides how big those ripples are
but I fear
that is just wishful thinking
unfortunately rage does reside within us
and we all have exactly the same amount
it’s just the size of the fuse that is lit
the trigger
and our reaction to it
that decides the size of the explosion
and each of us has our very own fuse
our very own trigger
and our very own perspective
or not
maybe rage just is
I’ll let you decide.
