Puzzle Pieces
He poured out the shoebox
onto the floor
he said don't you worry
I have plenty more
I know that you're in there
I've saved you for years
there's even a cannister
full of your tears
you'll have to go through it
there's one special case
that's full of the pieces
for most of your face
I knew you would wake up after a while
and wonder what feller
ran off with your smile
I know that you threw all these pieces away
but I went through your garbage
and saved them to say
there will come a time to put on your face
the one that the world sees
get out of this place
This place of disaster
you've hunkered down in,
the hurricane's over
it's time to begin
to clean up your act dear
now let's try our best
to pick out the pieces of you from the rest
I just had to laugh at this crazy surprise!
there was my hearing, there were my eyes!
no wonder everything always was dead,
this guy had a box
with the rest of my head!
we sat down together to pick out the pieces
of sisters and brothers and uncles and nieces
and when we were finished
we had nothing new,
just the rest of old me
who still loves
the old you.
