Promise Land
I saw you on top of the mountain
and took your strong words in,
I drank them like water from a fountain--
there was no light or dark skin
I heard you make a speech
about having a dream for all,
people as far as the eyes could reach
gave credence for your equal call
You marched with a peaceful theme
then gave when there was no more to give,
your legacy is an endless golden stream
cleansing from the heavens where you live
Birmingham, Memphis, and D.C.
are all part of your blood of strife,
Dear Martin... the world spins free
because you shamed inequality's life.
