Promise
I made a promise to the Lord...but you know I always broke it
Now I languish in my lies...now I'm smoking and I'm choking
Stoking the fires of forgotten yesterdays
Caught up like a criminal
In this cell I rot away
I made a promise to be true...but falsehood led the way
I made a promise to my lover...you know she was so sweet
Still in time I turned her sour
Now our song's a battle beat
What I seek is what I find
What I found I had to lose
I made a promise to be true...the path of pain is what I'd chose
I made a promise to a liar...and that liar was myself
Every dream that I desired was put sky high upon a shelf
I rose and fell
I ran and flipped
Like coins inside a casino...another slide right through the slot
Deposited into darkness...in this prison I make peace
Now when I make a promise I do my best to keep it
Love now lives inside my heart
I now possess the kingdom keys
Best be told and best believe that my word becomes my bond
And the truth will tell my tale
No matter how dark or light
No matter how short or long
