Privacy and Celebrity
Anyone would fancy fame
Till they realise it’s a right strain
And a way of sending your life down the drain
No privacy
No chance for the delights
Of the ordinary man’s liberty
And anonymity
Smothered by fame
Gnawed by the Paparazzi
Pursued
Caught
Exposed
The court of public perception
Holds great sway
Any chance of individuality is cast into
The whirlwind of celebrity
Self or artificially created
They sold their soul
Now are unable to reclaim
What the world feels it now owns
The predators disregard the prey’s self- respect
And smash the illusion
Of man’s inalienable rights
Fame shone bright
Initially
But dimmed oh so quickly
As the public and private
Persona gelled too closely
The need for recognition
The fragile grasp of the limelight
All smashed as scandals become norm
And the comedy of their lives exposed
Celebrities are held up
As ideals
For all to own
But the pedestal of fame
Can be set aflame
Quickly and burn so brightly
With no tolerance
Or sensitivity
