Confined within the steep banks of a narrow mind is a cryptic river where men stumble in and go blind They construct reinforced dams that hold them back from accepting the candid truth; white is not black Like the slow moving current of a trickling stream their thoughts are clogged and clot like curdled cream What chance do the recalcitrant ones have to accept reality if they allow no vision of being circumspect of taking fault and blame for having a closed mind? These are the ignorant, the foolish ones aptly defined as those destined to stagnate until they decompose It's the subsequent end to the stubborn who oppose a new premise or concept with which they don't agree They rot inside prisons of conceit; a human tragedy

Powerful poetic observations, Lin! Let the spilt ink from your pen help free those prisoners locked within. Great poem. Kudos on POTD. Love and smiles always.

Hello, Rick, and thanks ever so much.

I would think the "human tragedy" would be the "end to the stubborn who oppose a new premise or concept with which they don't agree". It seems that the new "era of perception" has seized the realm of thought and useful exchange of ideas. Just one man's humbly stubborn opinion. Congrats on the POTD, Lin,it has caused many to pause and think...thank you

Real poetry and real ideas! Although I think some people identify with a cause, etc. that they fear losing their identify if they consider any other viewpoint.

They should fear losing more than their identity. Thanks, very much.

That metaphorical conceit is neatly drawn from the first to the last line, Lin. I admire that. And congratulations on PotD :)

The problem with people like this is that they are too ignorant to see the error of their ways and they will never change; they are destined to be this way forever. Nicely penned, Lin. John

Thanks so much. That's toadly correct, Seren. Here's a quote that I found, fitting for a fool. "A WISE MAN CONFESSES HIS WRONG; A FOOL DEFENDS IT" Some people are just too stubborn to admit they're wrong, even if they know they are.

Oh yes, Jan, it also applies to women who are of the same nature. I found a quote that said, "The problem with closed-minded people is that their mouths are always open." Apropos! Thanks so much for your thoughts.
