Primroses

Our paths converged at the dawn of a day When love was young and the primroses graced A quiet grove in the care of a fey; On that morn, my young heart knew no haste. We laughed and kissed in the gardens, unseen, Where Jove and Mars on their pedestals stood Firm watch far above, by the green And luxurious spread of the wood. So long ago was all this, and I sigh As time invites me to visit anew The sleepy fountains and tries to deny That your days in my arms were so few.
