Pretending To Believe

Pretending To Believe Playing a part in the act of life is not treason It takes years to perfect this imperfection We all wear masks Not all of us are true believers We forget to remember eternity and God Pretending to believe is easy in fertile soil Along the waters edge Life is like a river pulling us along Sustaining waters, nourish, sustain Pretending in the desert is another story More troublesome to endorse You simply sit there in the dry and die Supported by nothing more than baking sun Scorched roads don’t move themselves Don't save you Don’t surmise thirst and hunger, no surprise Going nowhere in a hurry Roads simply sit there, dutiful, that’s what they do Not looking for a highway to the truth If you play a part long enough and wisely Pretending to be something, someone else You become the part inevitably, eventually Perhaps even believe in God one day By simply being by the banks and streams Take comfort in the tears that make water in your eyes Water rises. It can’t hurt to be alive Along the rivers and tributaries of your life
