Portrait of a Broken Slave
Haunting, this black and white photo of yesterday’s slave
I’m taken back to those dead eyes
Some spirit takes me there
Captive veins in chains
I’m taken back to those dead eyes
Is this slave dreaming of his escape?
Captive veins in chains
Silently, a man dreams of revolting
Is this slave dreaming of his escape?
He endured whips, scrapes and burns
Silently, a man dreams of revolting
A dream a man denied, clinched in chains
He endured whips, scrapes and burns
Some spirit takes me there
A dream a man denied, clinched in chains
Haunting, this black and white photo of yesterday’s slave
A Panton
