Pondering Castle Ruins At Dusk

Pondering Castle Ruins At Dusk I came upon you near to dusk watching on the final hill as modern sculpture, graced stone calm, slumbering, still. I wandered through the ghostly rooms sparely traced by tumbled walls seeking echoes from soft souls who coloured life into your walls. I touched your stone with tender hand seeking signs of yesterday a remnant of another time rains had washed your tales away Yet something of those times remain within the spaces of your keep the wind it sped a reedy tune and voices murmured slow and deep.

Oh Silent One you are kind to take the time to read and comment. I believe that every dwelling has a story or many for that matter and they call out to us if only we had the patience to listen.

Ruined castles are "two a penny" in "Old Blighty"...and they never cease to thrill! From mighty Arundel Castle, home of England's premier Duke, to the ruins of Beeston, just down the road from me, they always impress! Enjoyed this one, Patricia...has a strangely reassuring quality about it all - great write! :) john

I think that if you treat a ruin with respect then it will tell its story. Thank you John.

Great poem expressing that feeling of "presences" in historical places.
