Politics and Poetry - Is Hate Really the Answer

Politics and Poetry – is hate really the answer Why write a poem of hate about Trump He’s been there just over a week Though Hilary Clinton the people did dump It still matters not what they seek He cussed and he lied and they think that he cheated While she was an angel for sure Still not accepting that she was defeated With her server on her basement floor They say that this guy he don’t act Presidential He talks like some dude in the hood Just like a neighbor, a friend, residential That proves then that he is no good He lunges at beautiful women parading This guy never can get his fill Though they never minded the task of evading Monica’s blue dress and Bill I guess it just feels better when they are shouting This terrible feeling they tote To me it just seems like a big bunch of pouting Perhaps some forgot how to vote Now we see protesters clog up the city Vulgar the words they do lob If you ask me I would say it’s a pity Why don’t these folks have a job I’m guessing this problem, Trumps’ also to blame No work must be fueling their fears But wait now, I don’t think that he is the same Who sat in that chair for eight years They scream for the people his order is banning This policy that they abhor Though back when the Donald was happily tanning Barrack did the same thing and more He called it a pause, whispered, it’s temporary Kept them from reaching our coast In secretive silence this news he did carry Always a wonderful host But I don’t recall hearing people complaining No “you are a racist” was heard No hate escaped from some loud voices straining Not even one single F-word Now Schumer is weeping, his fake tears are falling Crying, “This man is so mean” Though not long ago old Chuck he was calling For banning and vetting extreme Both sides of his mouth to me it is sounding Claiming that he’ll never quit I’ve got a huge headache, my head it is pounding Can anyone say hypocrite But Donald, that creep, he made fun of a cripple Waving his arms in the air While I don’t remember it causing a ripple When Obama, the same he did share The laughter on Kimmel was on the floor rolling The POTUS excuse I am sure When the Special Olympics were said of his bowling Their handicap tied to his score But now we all find it’s a whole different story Some didn’t get what they want Cheering the sound of a Meryl Streep fury While all the rest of us grunt I didn’t cast not one vote for Obama But accepted the office he won Then didn’t whine and go cry to my mama And think that the country was done I never threatened to blow up the White House Like some has been singer might do Or paint on a sign about raping his spouse That’s such a sick point of view Yes you are welcome to have your opinion Just try to use some restraint And don’t try to change me, I won’t be your minion Mine is a mind you can’t taint Live and let live, now my penned invitation Thank you if you stopped to glance For I still am proud of this wonderful nation Let’s give the new guy a chance I am not very political and hardly ever include it in my poetry. But it is really starting to bother me the amount of hate that I see everywhere now about our President. The news, the internet and now hateful poetry. I get it that some don’t like the guy but if they don’t like someone at work or at school or at the mall or wherever, is attacking that person the answer? Is posting nasty things about them on the internet or social media the answer? Is destroying private property and threatening innocent people the answer? Is acting like a bunch of uncivilized, ignorant, uneducated, DEPLORABLE people the answer? I am sure I will lose most of my readers here because of this but fair is fair. They way I see it, the guy deserves a chance and if he messes it up, then I will say I was wrong. “All we are saying, is give peace a chance” – John Lennon

Thanks for writing this. I came across it today. I've been away awhile, recently returned to find so much hate etc, I was thinking I might move on. This is so well written, heartfelt, informative. Rhyme and rhythm perfect. It's a fav for me. Check out my 'Give Trump a Chance'... I almost didn't post. You said it so much better!

Consent makes all of the difference when comparing Monica with victims of Trump. Many tend to confound hatred with fear. Many many complainers and whiners and barrier throwing republicans were loud and clear with Obama and many protested and he heard many death threats. The president signs up for exactly what trump is getting. I don't know why he thought he would be special??

A fantastic poem, Chris! I'm tired of all the hate, too. It's ridiculous and extremely sad. Blessings, Kim

Thank goodness in America the people still have a say through voting.....there are powerful, unseen radical forces beneath - that have been working insidiously for over 30 years to overturn America, using politicians as puppets, infiltrating our schools to indoctrinate our youth - aided by a dishonest media...and they almost succeeded.Hence the anger. The protesters are paid. Look up George Soros. Good writing, Chris...

Thanks so very much Suzanne for your comment on my piece. I am very familiar with Soros and his ways. It should be obvious to many that there is more at work here than just upset citizens. It is truly sickening.

Chris this is one reader you will not lose. As a former soldier I applaud your boldness for exercising your freedom of speech a freedom I help defend. I think everyone needs to read this poem of yours and let it sink in deep into their minds. There is a mountain of truth in what you just said although I think they would rather plod through the valley of hate and lies anyway very well written my friend I will be a reader of yours as long as I can.

Thanks so much Edward, I appreciate you stopping by and reading this one. And sadly, you are right, most would rather believe the lies and fuel the hate. No one is perfect but I believe everyone deserves a chance.

I'll still read your poems and will defend your freedom of expression. You've asked a few questions about hate, my take is this anger is not about the new president rather the hypocrisy of the republicans and where this hate was born. From birthers to saying you lie during a state of the union showing no respect. From shutting down the gov, to Russian involvement, all this and more for love of power over country, trump is just the focus of the anger..my take..nice poem

Thanks Frederic, I appreciate that. And you are probably right but there was a lot of this going on during Bush as well, just not as bad. But...here's hoping that a non-politician, though fraught with flaws, might be able to change the ways and how these people (politicians from both sides) act. You never know.

Hi Chris, I will honestly say I didn't vote for Trump. But I must accept the fact that he is our president. The people have spoken. Acting in a uncivilized manner never solved anything. Excellent job in writing what you believe in. A without a doubt seven:-) Alexis

Here!!Here!! We as "Christians", are to follow Jesus's example...it was man who insisted in an earthly ruler--not God-- but as such, Gave man what he asked and said pray for him...for all those in authority...as "Christians", we are to pray for each other...to love one another as ourselves...be united, believing as one...all we do to be done in love...if we harbor hate in our hearts, we are as murderers and no better...All this has been foreseen and is coming to pass before our eyes...be ready

Thanks so very much Deb. I just can't take all of the hate I have been seeing. I watched demonstrators(?) at Cal Berkley the other night destroying everything they could, smashing windows and just anything they could destroy and for what, what point were they making? And those who write hateful poetry are only adding fuel to the fire. I just needed to vent

Yep, that is exactly it. If they would put as much energy into supporting as they do into whining, there's no telling how far this country can go.
Date: 2/3/2017 2:36:00 PM
Let's just blame everything bad on Trump, it will make the special ones feel good. I've seen so many people embarrassing themselves, not allowing the RIGHT to talk. Chris, since I was invited to read and comment, I'm taking it upon myself to let everyone know Who I supported. I Support My President, at first I was Pro-Hillary, because like every other woman I wanted a Woman President. Sadly, after watching the first debate everything changed in how I viewed America and her people. (PAUSE)

Thanks so much PD, nice to see you again. First let me say, I’m going to take your comments seriously even though that blue star avatar causes some reservation (an Eagles fan here) :) I agree with you and I think my POV is clear, I am sick of it. Exactly, blame everything bad on Trump. I am proud of my country and Trump, but I’m embarrassed to be a human being for some of the stuff I have seen.

I'm privately political;), I keep my politics to myself. Until I became addicted to Facebook lol. I will not consider myself to be any less over "politic boarders." The Cold is not going to make me warm up to the wrongful conduct going on by all the hate and division handed out by those who feel ill towards Our New President. I have good reasons why I gave support to a man I did not like before he became POTUS. I'm Latina and I'm not buying into the hate and rumors. Your poem is relevant and interesting. That's why I decided to comment. I'm fine if poets want to avoid me because I am Pro-Life and want security. I don't mind, it' only shows how worked up and corrupted those who don't agree are. I'm just saying, don't hate me cuz I'm a Trumpy, hate me cuz I write Poetry... (pause)

I know, Chris, I do follow this closely. I do have my opinion, some of which you may like, some of which you may not, but that is okay. What is not okay, painful even, is to see a nation getting split more and more.Something that did not start with the latest elections. But, as I said, it's something for email :)

Politics are intended to divide and concquer people and I have seen in some poems about Trump that prove the success in that endeavor. I appreciate this poem for adressing this issue.

You expressed yourself very well, Chris. Protesting is foolishness to me ... and violence I hate. As for the voting part. He did lose the popular vote by nearly 3 million. I don't think people forgot how to vote, it just that I believe voting never mattered much. Glad you could vent and release some steam. The politics of this world don't mean anything to me. It's all corrupt, no matter who sits in the big seat. Fat chance this guy is gonna change anything. Love you though, friend.

Yeah, I know Freddie, but I had heard something about the popular vote and went online to check it out for myself. If you remove California from the vote, she lost by close to a million votes. Just saying. But you are right, I think it doesn't matter who is in that chair, nothing will ever be accomplished. I appreciate you taking the time to comment on this one my friend. It means a lot to me.
Date: 2/3/2017 1:21:00 PM
Well done Chris, now that is what you call, getting it off your chest! :) and calling out the hatred for what it is. I see a divided Nation before Trump started, and becoming even more that way now. Sad and hard to watch.

Sorry about that Heidi, my Darren comment popped up here. :) Thanks my friend, it is so hard to watch what is happening in this country and on this site to be honest, so I thought I'd expressed a different point of view...mine. I appreciate you my friend.

Nah, why would you lose readers? I think that giving a chance is a good thing, but being cautious is too, time to wait and see I think. There are a few personal concerns I have but if I'd like to talk about it, soupmail is good enough. Hate, no. I'm a peaceful and gentle person.

You'd be surprised Darren. You have no idea what is going in this country most people who like and voted for Donald Trump are scared to death to say anything to anyone about it. They pretend they don't because they fear for their lives. I know that sounds a bit extreme, but it's not really. So, I'm sure there are some readers who will not like this or me at all.
Date: 2/3/2017 12:27:00 PM
In times of doubt and fear it is easy to use hate as a coping mechanism but no mater which party you support we are all one nation. We need to come together as one and use our strength towards good not attacking perceived bad.. as Gandhi says Without love there is no life...let's love one another

Chris, I only share my feelings about the president with my closest friends. Several have become quite ill since the election and they have to avoid watching news reports. We do have a right to our opinions, but we can't force them on others. I will always stand up for your right to express your angst. A powerful poem!

Honestly Carolyn, I usually don't share my political feelings with anyone. But, after what I am seeing I just decided to spit it out and voice my opinion. I too have friends that have become ill...on both sides. I pick a candidate and vote, if my candidate wins, good and if not, I wish the other one good luck. I just prefer peace over hate. Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I truly do appreciate you taking the time to read this and leave a nice comment for me.

Thank you so very much Jan. I expected death threats and throngs of protestors outside of my office trying to burn it down. So your kind comments are very welcome about this poem. I'm just tired of seeing all of the hate that people are writing about this guy and I decided I would be an equal opportunity poet. :)
