Politically Speaking
Politically Speaking

Politically speaking - I'm at such a loss
Trying to figure out - who the heck is the boss
Thought it was the people - as our forefathers spoke
Think it never quite was - it was their private joke
The few would finagle - the masses of course
To put posters around - from the back of a horse
Would speak from a stump - promise this, promise that
Anything for election - to where the money was at
Wealth would allow them - to follow their dream
And when voted in - would scrape off the cream
Share it with the rich - who helped them along
Trickle down what was left - to the mingling throng
Years have gone by, - very little has changed
The ways we're finagled - have been rearranged
The horses are gone - that spread 'round the word
Technology's here - I'm quite sure you have heard
TV, radio - then there's the net
What you're seeing or hearing - is not what you get
From the three major networks - to the fox in his den
From the myriad WEB sites - don't forget CNN
The sources are slanted - we are slid down the slopes
As we go down the hill - watch our dreams and our hopes
Dangled as carrots - held just out of reach
Give me your vote and you'll get them - is what they all preach
Yet when they're elected - our votes they forget
Not the rich who donated - on this you may bet
I may sound like I'm jaded - I really am not
If we want to change - this situation we've got
Become more involved - do not throw votes away
Vote for ones who will do - not for ones who just say
If they don't perform - when they've gotten your vote
Call them, text them - send them a note
They'll likely not listen - send a packaged reply
Likely a sidestep - or out and out lie
If that is what happens - you're committing a sin
If you give them your vote - when they're running again.
