Poetry Less

POETRY LESS Sitting at my computer with my silly hat on, Not knowing what to write, I really feel sad, down, really not bright, My muse is no help at all tonight, As I struggle to think with all my might! The situation lately is quite, A challenge, and in spite, Of my every endeavour, as I face this plight Do not have an inkling, or even a slight Idea, I try to relax, not to fight This block in my mind, it’s a fright, Hey musey mine, show me a light, For my ideas are a tad trite! You want us to fly a kite, In the dark, at night? Drink champagne and become tight, And caviar and biscuits bite? I’m beginning to come right, Oh my goodness dear muse, wait A poem is slowing forming despite, The block in my mind, what a delight, But in hindsight, Let’s work on it tomorrow, for I am alight Too much champagne, feel I’ll ignite!

Hi Mike, my poetry less stage, became a poetry more thanks to my muse who wanted to fly a kite at night! You seem to have found a solution to the problem, think I'll try it! Your comment is great thank you - have a wonderful weekend my friend. Hugs, Jennifer.

Thanks Caren, so glad you enjoyed - I think most of us go through these dry patches! My muse did come to my rescue towards the end of the poem but after a glass of champagne, we both thought writing a poem had to be for the next day! Hugs, Jennifer.

How cute this is! It certainly gained my grin. I also relate to an uninspired muse attack which for me is aided by music. Really, really cute and witty and playful. I bet you're a riot with a bit of bubbly in you! Poetry hugs ... CayCay

I had to blame my muse - my mind was like an empty pantry, with no goodies stored in it nor perhaps one or two that were floating around, the cupboard was bare! So good to her from you! Sold our huge home on three quarters of an acre with my landscaped garden and have downsized to a much, much smaller place in a complex where we hope is safer also - quite cute - will send you photos when we are settled - but now the process of cleaning and sorting 45 years of my parents lifetime and ours, plus work, plus poetry got to me and i was man down this last week for 3 days. love you my friend, hugs, Jennifer P.S. Thanks for the soupmail I saw it much later but appreciate your advice and concern so much.

Ha, ha: Once again we have touched on the same subject, and in much the same way. I've posted a rondeau today (Aug. 23) titled 'Those first few lines,' which ends with the effects on me of writing poetry after some wine. Enjoyed all of your spirited (pun intended) rhyming! :) gw

Great minds think alike Gershon - wine or champagne does the necessary for our muse and ourselves! Glad you enjoyed and will certainly go to your poem 'Those first few lines. Hugs, Jennifer.

When your "Muse is of no help tonight" you have your magic wand! You spell all the words.. and in a blink of an eye they are spilled in front of you to compose so charming and lovely a poem! I liked and enjoyed so much your work, dear Jenny! It has a fascinating aura and a beautiful flair! So much pleased with your genuine poetry, soul sister.. my warmest wishes. Love and hugs. Hi John, We have downsized from a four bedroomed house to a two bedroomed house with a much smaller garden - we have to be rather mercenary with the items we cast out opposed to the ones we take with us - this is a family home of 4 and a half decades, so you can imagine what has to be sorted out! This naughty muse lets us all down at some time or other. Hugs, Jenn.

I noticed all the great monorhymes and when I saw "wait" I wondered, is it pronounced as long I for you?? Recently I am seeing little things like that: how British English is different from American English , which makes us use rhymes sometimes differently. I really enjoyed this one. Very creative!

Yes the spelling of English and American words sometimes do differ but it all amounts to the same at the end of the day. Thanks for the visit, missed your presence. Great comment. Hugs, Jennifer.

Lovely and humorous, Jenny:) You found the right recipe for writer's block...champagne, biscuits and caviar! That in itself already tastes of poetry! ~ Warm regards & hugs // paul

We have all been here, feeling poetry less.. the best thing is not to force it and let it come naturally, problem for me is that it always comes when i am driving, in the shower or in bed... lol

I agree, forcing it brings out 2nd grade poetry, it must flow naturally, often something said on TV or an advert we pass on the highway sparks an idea and try to write it down as soon as I can but often the idea disappears - It think S.O it is all because we are moving to a new house (downsizing big time as ours is far too big)and have sold the one we inherited from my parents about 8 or so years ago and which has been in the family for 50 years and has my beautiful landscaped garden which I designed - very sad, breaks my heart! Thank you for a wonderful comment - hugs, Jennifer.

Yup, when your mood fits your silly hat, a humorous poem will follow, and one s happy with the results, but when I sit and ponder what to write, I close my computer and go back to it much lt later and this time with an idea - usually! Hugs, Jennifer.

A great write Jennifer, sums up well how we all feel at times but it will always come back to us at some stage if we wil! Just persevere. Blessings and hugs, Gordon

fickle muses sometimes need to be force fed thoughts when life's moments temporarily block her beyond the thoughts tossing within the mind, she is coming through...nicely penned poem! :) hugs

Panagiota, missed you - crazy busy this side of the pond (to use your terminology) as the house which my parents left us and which we renovated, we have now sold and have started sorting out 50 years of memories, things, furniture and much more as we are downsizing enormously. Work and poetry have suffered the last couple of weeks , but always think of you and hope you are keeping well. Hugs, Jennifer.
