Poem In Paradise
Lush
green
orange trees
laden with ripened fruit
that has prolonged its stay
late into spring.
She sits
elegantly
on her favourite
carved stone bench
with an old book
to keep her company.
The day is calm and warm.
Her mind drifts and strays
fluttering on velvet wings.
Intoxicated
by the smell
of clustered orange blossoms
her thoughts waft across the air
evolving into pleasant dreams
betrayed by a fleeting smile
that’s lost in time.
[A poem inspired by the painting:
"In the Orangery" by Charles Edward Perugini.]
