Poem In Paradise

Lush green orange trees laden with ripened fruit that has prolonged its stay late into spring. She sits elegantly on her favourite carved stone bench with an old book to keep her company. The day is calm and warm. Her mind drifts and strays fluttering on velvet wings. Intoxicated by the smell of clustered orange blossoms her thoughts waft across the air evolving into pleasant dreams betrayed by a fleeting smile that’s lost in time. [A poem inspired by the painting: "In the Orangery" by Charles Edward Perugini.] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18th July 2014 Contest: A Poem in Paradise Sponsor: Isaiah Zerbst Placing: 1st

Beautiful rendition of the picture prompt. I am not familiar with that artist or the painting, but you have painted with word a nice accompaniment. Congratulations on the wise use of your talent with words.

Hi Robert! Thanks for the congrats. Tried to make an orange, initially, but it was too oval, so I opted for a tree instead! // paul

Thank you Richard. It only takes me minutes to write a poem, but after that I sit down re-reading it many times, and won't post it unless I am satisfied....yes, I am a harsh self-critic! // paul

An excellent description that could easily fit the picture given. Loved this part especially my friend.. " Intoxicated by the smell of clustered orange blossoms her thoughts waft across the air evolving into pleasant dreams betrayed by a fleeting smile that’s lost in time." Good luck in the contest and this is a great write my friend!!!

An exquisite scene of " Day Dream " Paul. The integrity of your vision keeps the senses at attention. Betrayal can be devastating, wicked, but we must be mindful of not allowing our delusions to accuse others of betrayal. J.A.B.

Thank you for liking the poem and commenting, Sara. Unfortunately, what we picture in our minds while reading often turns out to be different from the original. Nearly always happens to me when I read a book and then watch the film based on it! // paul

Very well written, Paul. I love the imagery in this one. How thoughts can drift away and blend with nature's surroundings. This is so true, my friend, and you have penned it wonderfully.... Robert.
