Poem For the Poet

Poem For the poet A Darkened Street familiar footsteps The Appointed Hour has been long awaited An Embrace Of Souls never made the headlines For Headlines Never Print good news Do I Know You? the night is not all that is dark A Boy On His Bike Racing By dividing the night Fifteen Minutes Sweating Uphill for thirty sweet seconds of coasting Nobody Ever Broke The Law of diminishing returns For Ten Minutes A Month i observe the phantom of you Piecing Together The Puzzle that is you Your Pen Is A Machete making paths through my underbrush This Jungle Needs Clearing Sometimes the night is not all that is dark In Your Heart Is A Meal For The Hungry, a steady hand for the handicapped In Your Verse Is That Sacred Space in the eye of the storm A Poor Man Indeed Is He who knows not your friendship Poorer Still, The One who knows not your words

a very lovely and LOVING tribute, John. Now I wish I remembered exactly what you said about this poem in my email earlier I got from you. I am not good at figuring things out, but I have a poem kind of like this one, where the divided lines can be read separately or all together. I believe from what i tried just now, you can read them both ways. Was I right? it's a poem of such high praise for him!! (it's the song guy?)

Yes, the song guy, Ishmael. He is a beautiful soul, and has written poetry about every imaginable subject. Quite a mentor. Thank you for reading a puzzling it out and leaving behind your kind words ~ John
