Phones

They had just called us over. So I knew it was 5:00. We’re all restless now, so it’s 5:02. He’s always a little late. When the window opens, It is tempting to run back to bed. But I can’t sleep anyway. I don’t ask about the pills. It’s a secret- but what we don’t know will save us. Dinner will be served soon. So we can play with plastic forks and spoons. Then the calls roll in. So I know it’s 6:00. Some people are yelling, while others have loved ones at home. Me? I just know I love my mom. I had to go, a fight broke out. So I know it’s 6:27 as the phones cut off. Soon, I lose my mind again. And start chatting with the people I’m excited to leave behind.
