I received an exciting soup mail I’m minted, with wealth off the scale But I know it’s a fraud By some bloke from abroad These fraudster’s should be put in jail Got a call from a ‘Microsoft’ guy* His fake story I did not buy Said he’d turn off my ‘puter And re-route my router He told me just lie after lie These scammers just want a quick buck They try to find a sitting duck They’re after our money It sure isn’t funny Their unscrupulous actions just suck We have had several calls from 'Microsoft' saying our computer is at risk and they can help protect us ... I just put the phone down on them. Unfortunately an elderly friend of ours got taken in by their persistence and when it got to the you need to give us your bank account details part he realised it was a scam and wouldn't give his details but he had inadvertently given them access to remote control his PC and they put a password on it so he couldn't get into his files. It took my hubby several hours to sort out, remove the software programme they were using to control the PC and get the computer back to him so he could use it. 7/7/18

Yup, you've nailed this one! They prey on anyone and everyone they can: Equal opportunity varmints, they are. A pox on all of them. :) gw

Hello Jan … yep, the bludgers are at it all day to the point that you can't trust anyone on the phone if you don't know them - why can't they be stopped! Perhaps the phone companies make a nice dollar or two out of them - well said and written Jan - Lindsay

Yep, the "Microsoft" one is pretty common here in the states; sorry about your friend getting taken; it happens to so many. Great poem though and thanks for putting out the warning!

Our friend is 86 ML it is unbelievable the lengths these fraudsters go to to scam innocent people. it took hubby 4 hours to be able to unlock the PC but at least he could remove the software that was now controlling the computer and our friend can use it once more:-) hugs jan xx

These thieves are unconscionable Jan. So sorry for your friend. I have Kasperski protection. I used Google to find their number and found out the number went to a false Kaspersky site. I alerted Kaspersky but I'm not sure they did anything about it. You just have to be so careful these days. A great limerick Jan!

I agree Connie, they have no scruples. I always check out a number after they have rung, but am so worried my mum is getting lots of these calls. I try and protect her as best I can telling her not to speak to anyone she doesn't know and to put the phone down on these automated callers, there seem to be a plague of these scams especially phone calls on our Island:-( hugs Jan xx

I love it that you turned this scam into a poem! I received the same offer, and promptly blocked the sender. Way to use those dendrites constructively!

so sad that people fall for it Paul and the victims are often elderly and do not realise they are being scammed - our friend is 86, thankfully hubby was able to get round the password they had put in and could take the software off so they could no longer remotely access his PC :-( hugs jan xx

That idiot scammer that i told you about actually had the brass tacks to e-mail me back. Been trading insulting emails with him all day to and fro quite hilarious . Give him his due though he kept on and was actually quite adamant it my fault not his because I don't have a job or work to do?? Like I said made me laugh and passed a few hours before the match

a bit of poetic licence with that line Christopher but if you follow their instructions and type in what they tell you they can remote control your PC. Flower festival ended today , we took a friend round 6 of the churches today (we had done all 17) camera is great! I take it England won - football yawnnnnnnnnn:-) hugs jan xx

The phone calls are quite threatening and our friend got scared they would block him from using his computer so he fell for their lies. They prey on the vulnerable, it is so so sad people get taken in:-(As for the e mails they are so badly written you can see its a scam from the first line:-( hugs jan xx
