Created by the omnipotent sovereign Almighty
I’m privileged to bear this scriptural distinction:
“fowl that may fly above the earth
in the open firmament of heaven.”
By virtue of a special proclamation
I have been declared the national bird of our country.
Soaring with such honour, I thank God
to be among the rarest and most powerful birds in the world.
As to my physical grandeur, endowed by my Maker
I’m satisfied with my dark face, creamy-brown nape and crown
Along my prominent, large, high-arched, deep beak that’s bluish-gray.
Likewise, my heavy legs are yellow, with large, powerful, dark claws.
Scientifically, I’m called “Pithecophaga jefferyi”
Formerly, however, I was labeled “monkey-eating eagle.”
News reports say that because of my size and rarity
I’m highly desired by birdwatchers.
Today, through the grace of the Lord, and my nation's faith
with the cooperation of conservationists
I, the Philippine eagle, am triumphantly thriving
surmounting my critical endangerment**.
*Genesis 1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
**In 2010, the BirdLife International listed this species as critically endangered.
