Petals In Bloom
I’ve been waiting in the sunshine
For my time to grow.
I’ve waited through the frost and shine,
And through several foot deep snow.
The flowers all around me, grown,
Their petals shine in deep full bloom.
While me I’m still a long thick stick
With only small leaves to groom.
Now I’ve seen these flowers die,
But I’m still standing strong.
For awhile I wanted to be these flowers,
But now I see I’m wrong.
For while these flowers may be pretty,
They don’t have the strength to last,
Through sun and storm and sun again,
I am a tree, alas.
