I am the most regal bird you’ll ever see in the land With my spectacular plumage, I’m pompous and grand My mate is quite dowdy as all her feathers are brown But we have royal connections as we both wear a crown! Did you know that my tail feathers are known as a train Of course I need no encouragement to show it off again! My train’s got over fifty ocelli which means simple eyes and when I fly high into the sky folk look up in surprise I’m one of the largest flying birds ever known to man With my enormous tail I’ve got a five foot wingspan Yes, I’m a proud peacock and it’s no wonder folk stare when I strut round palace gardens with my tail in the air I ignore all other birds, they think I’m nasty and snide - so an apt noun for us peacocks is an ostentation or pride! Congratulations on your first place, Jan. Your poem is beautuflully and craftly written in a style that's so uniquely yours. I hope you are staying safe and taking care of yourself. The pandemic is spiking in the USA. Young crowds are irresponsible. No asks and no social distancing. This is very scary. I have enjoyed reading your poem about the stunning peacock. Birds are beautful and inspiring. Have a wonderful day with your family. Be well, stay safe and smile. Your Poetry Soup friend, Andrew.

Such a beautiful personfication of a peacock Jan! Loved the vibrant colours and moods. It is really a rare opportunity to see a peacock dancing with unfurled wings. Congratulations on your win! :)

Love the treatment of the beautiful peacock and his ostentatious attitude towards others. Makes a good metaphor for some humans, methinks. Well done, this should be a winner. Hugs ~ John

You certainly chose a magnificent bird, Jan, and described the peacock perfectly. There's a bird park in S. Florida where you can see many of them, but I never did see one flying. Imagine that! An excellent entry for the contest, Hon. Wishing you success. Hugs, Carolyn

You wouldn't expect such a huge bird to take to the air - my friend's wish they couldn't fly as they cause havoc in their garden - their neighbour had 5 adults and of course over the years they have bred - last brood was 5 chicks:-( hugs jan xx

love this fun piece - makes me think of a cartoon I once saw, where there's a peacock strutting before a peahen & she says, 'Cut the crap & show me your dick.' LOL

G'day Jan ... a very good personification Jan. One glitch with male peacocks is if two live at each end of town, their calling to each other drives people mad - thank you Jan - Lindsay
