Five related limericks self-published in 2007 (17 years ago) accurately describe the current Palestine/Israel situation. This sequence of poems suggests ending the current madness through a sensible two-state solution.

Jerusalem is Israel’s prize Land in demand Jews idolize A Palestine state Is denied and will wait For more war before compromise

I agree that Palestine is long overdue for it's own state, as most of leaders have agreed with. Coexistence is inevitable, I believe that. I m eager to read parts 2,3,4! Wonderful images;)

Anaya, I am fearful this doesn't end up the way we would all like it to...that is in a manner where all sides can agree to end fighting. I am seeing more and more bad in the way this war is progressing...and it really saddens my heart. There was a story on American television today about an innocent Palestinian couple. Her husband died in a hospital after his foot was damaged and became infected. There were no drugs available to treat the individual. The side with obvious superior military power should have arranged for medical care for all the injured. This is but a small example of atrocity.

You summed it up perfectly all those years ago and the bloodshed has continued... when will it ever stop? Sadly people do not forget, do they... It is like me coming to your house and saying you have to live in the kitchen only... Will you put up with it?

Silent One...good point. I don't think many people would be able to stand that kind of abuse. It's really a bad situation and getting worse every day.

A magnificent limerick, dearest Duke, describing the Israeli-Palestinian dispute over the holy city of Jerusalem. You expertly described the predicament that arises from the competing claims to the land: the Jews adore Israel as a treasure, the Israelis reject the idea of a Palestinian state, and the result is an impasse and bloodshed.

SP, exactly! The sides in this conflict seem not ready for coexistence and mutual support that would make all their lives much better in the long run. The anger and hatred have become much too intense.

Yes--that is the solution for peace. You are on mark, Duke.

Thanks Vijay. In order for there to be peace, both sides have to be willing to see the value of it. It seems obvious to many of us that "living" can be a real joy. It breaks our hearts that so many people get cut off for reasons that seem illogical and foolish. How this is not seen by the parties in this war and those supplying arms is hard to fathom.
